Beautiful Japanese bamboo flute called a Shakuhachi.

There is a growing community of Shakuhachi players outside of Japan for a variety of reasons:

1. They are quickly becoming a "must have" item for "ninja cosplayers".
2. Learning the techniques to play Shakuhachi are a great form of meditation.
3. Playing the Shakuhachi is magickal! It can really reduce stress from life's "day to day stuff".
4. Shakuhachi are just beautiful to look at! They really enhance any Asian themed decor.
5. Shakuhachi are a great conversation starter when people find out you play Shakuhachi.

THIS FLUTE is a 2.7 root end Jinashi Shakuhachi in the key of G minor pentatonic with a red lacquered bore.  This flute is quite long at 32 inches (81.5cm) and would present a challenge for beginners or those with small hands so probably best for those with bigger hands or at least at an intermediate level of playing.

It's about 5 years old, has an ebony inlay with a red lacquered bore and 8 nodes.  The outside root end is lacquered a dark brown which contrasts nicely with the red lacquered bore.  This is a mumei (no hanko or signature) Shakuhachi.

Long, bass Shakuhachi usually exhibit certain qualities such as a deep, resonant sound that helps move you into a meditative state and an ability to play at a range from fairly loud to a near whisper.  This flute is no exception and shows these qualities as well.

Typically, the most played keys for Shakuhachi are D (1.8), then E (1.6) and finally C (2.0). D is for ensemble court music, the other two for solo playing or modern ensemble playing.

At 2.7 and in a low G, this flute falls outside the typical range of most Shakuhachi.  While being difficult to play for beginners and/or those with smaller hands, these types of low, bass flutes are highly sought after for those who approach the Shakuhachi as a vehicle for meditation and enlightenment.

To reiterate: This flute is exactly as it appears in the photos, has a beautiful ebony inlay at the mouthpiece (in the Kinko school style), a nicely lacquered bore, and an elegantly lacquered root end. it would be a great choice for those who are interested in using the Shakuhachi as a method of meditation and spiritual development.
